Abstract: The article analyzes the current state and prospects of development of environmental cooperation between BRICS member states (Brazil, Russian Federation, India, People’s Republic of China, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Islamic Republic of Iran, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Arab Republic of Egypt and Indonesia). The overall environmental challenges faced by these States are examined, and existing cooperation mechanisms and initiatives are reviewed, including the role of the New Development Bank (NDB) as an institution for promoting sustainable development. Special attention is given to the potential of increasing participation of youth and scientific community in the implementation of BRICS environmental projects. The need for harmonization of regulatory and technical frameworks in the area of environmental impact assessment, intensification of exchange of information and experience in the field of environmental legislation and enforcement practices, promotion of "green" development economy and environmental education programs is emphasized.
